BE PREPARED

ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR TRIP?

If you are all booked up, then congratulations! If not, then what are you waiting for? Below we have a few key topics that will hopefully give you some peace of mind before your trip.

We believe that a camper van holiday is the best way to explore your chosen destination. You can have a new view every night, the freedom of making you own timings, not having to rely on transport timetables and there is no time wasted with unpacking or tent building - your adventure starts right away. But be sure you know the basics; we've got a few key topics below.

WHAT FUEL DO YOU NEED?

Ensuring you have all the facts about your van before you head off on you travels will mean you have less to worry about once you begin. All of our Coolbeans campervans run on diesel fuel.

It may be worth checking out the nearest petrol stations along your selected journey to lower the risk of being stranded in an unfamiliar city with no fuel! We want you to spend the holiday adventuring, not hunting around for fuel!

DO YOU KNOW THE SPEED LIMITS?

It sounds like a simple question, or maybe not even something you have considered but it is important that the rules of the road are followed. All of our camper vans weigh 3.3 tonnes so be sure to abide by the following limits:

According to gov.uk, 'Motorhomes or motor caravans (more than 3.05 tonnes maximum unladen weight) must stick to*:

- 30mph in built up areas

- 50mph on single carriageways

- 60mph on dual carriageways

- 70mph on motorways

*unless there are signs showing otherwise.

THE BREAKDOWN PROTOCOLS

Breakdowns can really ruin a trip, and we want to avoid that at all costs. All of our vans are checked for any problems before your trip and are regularly serviced in between bookings.

In the unlikely event that you experience a breakdown, our motorhomes have the benefit of  Breakdown Assist Cover. We will provide you with a list of emergency telephone numbers so that you can rest assured that everything possible is done to help you in an emergency.

ARE YOU INSURED?

This is one area that you don't need to worry about. Insurance is all sorted out by the Coolbeans team! One driver per group is included on the insurance as standard but additional drivers can be added on at a small cost. Please let us know when booking if you would like more than one driver.

Anyone can drive the vehicle, as long as they are between 23 and 75 with no more than 6 point on their drivers licence and have at least 2 years driving experience.

WHERE CAN YOU PARK?

It is important that if you want to park up somewhere off the beaten track – and not in a caravan or motorhome park – you know whose land you are on, and you have permission to be there.

Typically, most land in Britain is owned by someone, and without permission to camp on their land you may be in breach of the law so make sure you look into this. If you would like to partake in 'wild camping' we suggest you do some investigating before your trip to find land where it is allowed.

Can you sleep anywhere on the street? Well, there is no specific law which makes it illegal to sleep in a motorhome at the roadside but, that being said, it doesn't mean you won’t be woken with a knock on the door from the police. So if they want to move you on, you have little choice but to search out a new spot, as you have no ‘right’ to park any vehicle on the road. A little research before a trip goes a long way!
